I think the management at TVA should be forced to themselves, and their families, drink that 'harmless' crap water every nite at mealtime for a month. mmmmm, yum!

As beautiful as the cover image is for your new book, the images of the coal fly ash disaster is the polar opposite. It makes me so angry I could spit! I shared the blog entry with my colleagues at SAFC.

First they decapitate the mountains. Then they foul the air and land by burning the coal. Then the byproduct from burning the coal gets spilled into our waterways. It's like they keep cutting us over and over with the same knife.

Beautiful Jerry! I look forward to purchasing a copy as soon as it becomes available.

I am interested in speaking to Charles Maynard about our wilderness campaign for the Cherokee National Forest. I'm putting together a committee comprised of folks from the faith community to put together a document addressing the spiritual values of the Cherokee National Forest. If you think that's something he might be interested in learning about, I'd love to chat with him.

Keep up the great work.

Jerry - thanks for the info on your visit to the Harriman site - I have sent out some info & comments to our group & in future will include your site as a reference. I'm from E. Tenn. originally (Kingsport) and of course relied on TVA power there, but their method of storing this stuff is really ignorant since heavy rains, freezing and thawing etc. occur there on a regular basis. I don't doubt that the earth berms around unlined basins satisfy the current regs, & there's the problem! Time to get serious about prevention --

Actually, Ed has another book called "Potomac: The Nation's River" with the primary author listed as Frank Graham, Jr. It is way out of print but I remember reading it after checking it out of the library in Richardson, TX in the '70s. He did all the photographs for the book.

By the way, I saw Ed today at a doctors office in Johnson City. At first I didn't recognize him. He was using a walker and had one foot bandaged up. His wife was with him. I wish I had said hi to him but didn't since I was not sure it was actually him. Then when they called him in they said "Edward Scnell" so I am 99% sure that it was him. We used to hike together in late 70's when I first came to Johnson City.

Beautiful light, Jerry. The G9 is a little gem. It's my little side camera when I carry the 4x5. It's just perfect as a companion when I see an image that that's nice enough to make, but doesn't need to be printed huge.
